Once inside the castle, the State Rooms are one of the key exhibits.
They contain the magnificent Chapel built early in the 15th Century by
Sir Fulke Greville. Equally spectacular is the Great Hall where meals
and social occasions were held for hundreds of years. The Great Hall
holds many spectacular exhibits and should not be missed. |
 |
The first feature to grab your attention in the Chapel will be the
superb stained glass window at the far end. It was donated by the Earl
of Exeter in 1759 and is original mediaeval glass. |
| The State Dining Room was commissioned by Sir Francis Greville and
built in 1763. Several kings have dined in these rooms, most famously
Edward VII, Queen Victoria and George IV. If you click on the right hand
picture you will see the portrait of Charles I on horseback painted by
the Van Dyck studios. |

The Great Hall at Warwick Castle is the largest room in the castle
and was originally where the castle owners spent most of their times
indoors.
In the centre would have been the "central heating". It was simply a
fire to keep the occupants warm. There would not have been any chimney
so the atmosphere in the hall must have been truly stiffling. |
 |
There are many other rooms and exhibits inside the State Rooms, a
couple of which are pictured here.
On the left is King Henry VIII and his six wives, on the right is
Queen Elizabeth II. The waxworks have been made by the Tussauds waxworks
which is part of the company who own the castle. |
