St Nicholas Park is situated very near Warwick
town centre and Warwick Castle alongside the River
Avon. A stroll along the river in itself is an
excellent way to pass a few hours. This stretch of
the river is paved making it accessible for
wheelchair users.
The park was opened in 1933 by the Countess of
Warwick and hosts a wide variety of activities. |
 |
Some parks are not conducive to a game of football,
cricket or whatever sport takes your fancy but St
Nicholas Park is not one of those. The are acres of
open space and there are no restrictions on normal
games. If you fancy a game of Crazy Golf (or
Adventure Golf) then the park has an 18 hole one at
£3.00 for adults and £2.50 for kids and pensioners. |

 |
If the weather is warm then the kids will
really love a paddle in the shallow pool
which is well maintained and safe. Adults
have been known to cool off here as well!
It's free for everyone. When the paddling
and exercise necessitates a stop for a light
lunch or snack then the excellent cafe is
the obvious place to go. It can get a
bit busy in peak times though. |
 |
 |
A simple walk around the park is
rewarding. At most times of the year there
are spectacular plant displays. Magnificent
aged tree specimens provide shelter for a
summer's day picnic. The is a kid's
amusement park (rides are purchased on a
token system) and a free kid's play area.
The Leisure Centre has a swimming pool and
lots of exercise equipment for hire (01926
495353). |

If you fancy combining a visit to the park with another
activity then St John's Museum
is a two minute stroll away. On site is the Boathouse by
Castle Bridge which has erratic opening times intended to be
Easter - October. During those times it's almost always open
at the weekends but not so often during the week. The views
from a trip on the boats are outstanding. For the really
energetic, there is a skate board / blades / boards area
which is well laid out and free for all. Tennis courts can
be booked on 01926 450000. These are kept in good condition
and surrounded by wire mesh.
Al in all, St Nicholas Park provides a huge range of
activities, many of which are free. It's well worth a
morning or afternoon of anyone's time. Toilets are on the
park and include baby changing and disabled facilities
