The most powerful of all the Earls of Warwick was Richard Neville. He
became earl by marrying Anne Beauchamp in 1448. More details of his
history can be found by clicking
here. His life ended in 1471 at the battle of Barnet when he was
defeated by Edward IV. |

The Kingmaker exhibit is a series of stage sets with recorded
speeches. It tells the story of the common soldiers and tradesmen who
were involved in the preparation for battle and the battle of Barnet
itself. The trades involved in preparing equipment and soldiers for
battle was larger than you might imagine. On the left is a wheelwright
using all his considerable skill to make a new wheel for a cart. Click
any picture on this site to enlarge it. |

Above are shown some more of the exhibits which tell their story
extremely well. The last picture is of the exhibit where Richard
Neville encourages his men to fight their best in the coming
battle.
We thoroughly recommend the Kingmaker. As with all the
attractions at Warwick Castle (excluding the Ghosts Alive) this
is free once the castle entrance has been paid. It's open all
the day and we would think an hour is long enough to walk
leisurely through it. |
