Malta measures 27km (17 miles) by 14km (8.5 miles). The
current population is 370,000 making Malta the fourth most
densely populated country in the world. The vast majority of
Maltese are Catholic and practice their religion. The
official languages of Malta are Malti and English. English
is understood very well and will cause you no problems. As
in England, cars drive on the left in Malta. Driving is OK
but the Maltese do not always obey traffic signs, but that's
not only so for the Maltese!
Malta time is + 1 hour GMT and daylight saving operates. |

The best way to get round Malta is
to hire a car, they are cheap and with the island
being so small, distance is never a problem.
If you have no car then the busses
(click here for a page on the busses of Malta) are
the next best method of getting round. Virtually all
busses start or end in the capital city Valetta.
This makes travel awkward some times but at least
predictable! The best site for bus travel
information and the routes is
ATP.
Taxis are available in most tourist
areas and the prices are reasonable. |
