Continue walking along Villegaignon
Street and turn left into the St Peter's Street. This is
narrow so watch out for horse and carts. Continue to the
bottom of the street and then turn right into Magazine
Street. A short distance along is the Knights of Malta
exhibition. Not normally impressed by exhibitions of this
type we were pleasantly impressed. The history of the
Knights of Malta is explained clearly first in a film and
then via waxwork sets.
A few of the sets are illustrated below.
They describe how the Knights came into being, originally as
providers of hospitals. It traces their arrival in Malta and
how they fortified it. And finally, as shown on the left, it
describes how Napoleon ended their rule of Malta with the
stroke of a pen. |

Continue walking up Magazine
Street and turn into Bastion Square. The views from
the ramparts are spectacular across Malta.
Head down Villegaignon Street. On
your left is the Palazzo Falzon (Norman
House) where the first Grand Master (de L'Isle Adam)
received the keys to Malta in 1530. A few steps
further down is the Medieval Times exhibition which
is well worth missing!
Continue down Villegaignon Street which will lead
you back to the gates of Mdina. |
