The most interesting way get to Puerta de Europa is to catch the number 27 bus anywhere along the Paseo del Prado or Paseo de Castellana. A good starting point is the Estacion de Atocha which is an interesting station in its own right.

It will take about 15 minutes or so to get to Puerta de Europa and you will know where to get off because you can't miss those two leaning towers.

Taking the 27 bus along the Paseo de Castellana is a great way to sample a bus ride in Madrid. The road is straight and your destination is so huge that you will know exactly where they are.

When the two towers come into view ahead of you you will soon pass the stadium for the Real Madrid football club on one side of the road and the Palacio de Congresos conference centre on the other.

When you get there, it's quite easy to stand on the concrete blocks around each of the towers to really appreciate how far they lean inwards.

Both office blocks lean inwards at an angle of 15%. The exterior is smoked glass with the main structural elements being granite and metal.

They were built in the mid 80s for the Kuwait Investment Office hence their local name of the Torres KIO. The towers were completed in 1996 after several delays and changes in ownership. They are one of the most famous landmarks of modern Madrid.
