Gozo is 8 km (5 miles) from Malta,
separated by the Il Fliegu channel. The island is also small
measuring only 13.5 km (8 miles) by 6.5km (4 miles). Gozo
may be small but it is suitable either as the main
destination for a holiday or for a day trip. Gozo has no airport of its own
so it escapes much of the tourist invasion. This makes it a safe
and peaceful island which lives life at its own slow pace.

The busses in Gozo are sparse indeed.
They mainly transport day trip tourists who land in Mgarr
harbour into the capital of Gozo, Victoria. From there you
can catch infrequent busses to a few other major towns. Car
hire on Gozo is recommended if you want to travel around.
They are extremely cheap.

First port of call on Gozo has to be
Azure Window (see
above picture). Spectacular views and the bluest sea
water in the world. Next on your list should be the
Citadel in Victoria and in
particular a visit to Gozo Cathedral. the citadel
offers the best views from Gozo.
The
Basilica at Ta-Pinu is also
worth a visit though the approach to it is a bit
scary in a car if you suffer from vertigo. The
craft village at
Ta'Dbiegi is more authentic than the craft village
on Malta and here you will be able to see Gozotian
lace being made by hand. |

If it's beaches you are after, the best
is at Ramla. It's sandy, wide, safe
and a beautiful light red colour. The harbour at
Mgarr is also interesting with
lots of cafes and restaurants.
