The craft village in Gozo is at Ta'Dbeigi
on the west side of the island. It's near the Basilica at
Ta'Pinu. Just before the craft village (well-signposted) is
Gozo Glass. Not to our taste because the colours are truly
garish but interesting all the same.
The craft village is well laid out with
individual shops scattered round the site. Here you can see
pottery, lace, glass and leather items all being made on
site. |

Top on your list of shops at Craft Village should be
Maria's lace shop. This is run by her son with Maria
and some friends making the traditional lace. If
Maria isn't in the shop at the time of your visit,
ask her son when she can give you a demonstration.
Watching the lace being made is absolutely
fascinating. The speed of the hands and the
complexity of the movements to make lace is mind
boggling! We have a short movie of lace being made,
click here if you want to view it.
If you buy hand made lace, remember the work that
has gone into hand-crafting the lace. Some items
take literally many months to make. |

Also on the craft village site is a good selection
of other shops, some of which are shown below. We
bought a belt from the leather shop at a very
reasonable price. Adjusted while we waited.
The Candle Makers was especially interesting as
was the Gozo Pottery Barn |
