Barcelona is one of those cities which
has something to please everyone. Yes it has lots of
cultural sites to visit but it is also a fun city with parks,
shopping, spectacular views and flamenco begging for your
attention.
The port of Barcelona can easily be
forgotten if your visit is short but not only is it fast
becoming the "new" centre of the city but it also explains
why fish is such an important part of the cuisine in this
part of Spain.

Our tourist guide to Barcelona is based on a visit lasting
around three days. We have to admit to love of eating and
drinking local produce and Barcelona will not disappoint. In
order to sample the local cuisine we would recommend
frequent stops at tapas bars in between sight seeing. That
was our excuse anyway!

Barcelona is a sea port and sea
food is a very large part of the local cuisine. You
can expect the highest quality and freshest sea food
you have ever tasted.

the cuisine of Barcelona and some tapas bars we
visited and can recommend.
Linked to food is the market at
Boqueria on Las Ramblas. Boqueria is a huge meat,
fish and vegetable market in the centre of
Barcelona. It gives great insight into the cuisine
of Barcelona. Without a doubt this crowded market is
worth a couple of hours of any tourist's time.
Cafes, tapas bars and restaurants are within the
market and on the surrounding las Ramblas area.

Barcelona Cathedral is well worth a visit. Its
exterior and interior are impressive and visiting is
free. While you wander around the Cathedral be sure
to spend some time studying the carvings which
decorate many of the side altars. Many are
particularly interesting and some plainly gruesome.

Barcelona
Cathedral. No visit to Barcelona would be
complete without a visit to the Montjuic area.
Amongst other attractions it gives the visitor
spectacular views over the whole of Barcelona. Click

Montjuic area of Barcelona. |
| Make no mistake about it, Sagrada Familia is a
very, very incomplete church. But that is part of
its attraction. From the outside it looks like some
modernistic work gone horribly wrong. The inside is
largely incomplete and at the time of our visit a
truck was parked in the central area of the church
interior. But that is half the fascination of
Sagrada Familia.
The final "must see" for any visitor to Barcelona is
a trip to a Flamenco show. There are several
excellent Flamenco clubs in Barcelona, we opted for
Tablao de Carmen. The performance was excellent and
provided a good night out especially when combined
with one of their meal options. Click here for more
information on
Flamenco in Barcelona. |
