The Van Gogh Museum in the centre of Amsterdam is the largest collection of the Van Gogh paintings in the world. It features paintings from all stages of his life.
On Vincent van Gogh's death, his younger brother inherited the core collection. The collection passed to Theo's widow Johanna van Gogh-Bonger and then onto her son Vincent Willem van Gogh in 1925.

In 1962, Vincent Willem made a permanent loan of the collection to the Van Gogh Museum. Other van Gogh works have been added over the years. Notable works by other artists can also be seen in the museum including those of Gaugin, Toulouse-Latrec, Lhermitte and Millet.

OPENING TIMES AND DIRECTIONS:

Opening Times: Daily 10.00 to 18.00. On Fridays the museum stays open until 22.00.Make sure you get to the museum early to avoid the queues and crowds. In our opinion, if you reach the museum after 11.30 in the peak season, go somewhere else! The crowds can make viewing the paintings a pointless exercise.
